The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) nominates skilled workers and entrepreneurs for permanent residency to help fill labor gaps and boost the province’s economy. While nominees can apply for permanent residency with their families, the final approval is handled by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

As of September 30, 2024, anyone interested in immigrating to Alberta through the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) must submit a Worker Expression of Interest (EOI) to be considered for an invitation. This new requirement applies to candidates aiming to apply under one of Alberta’s worker streams.

Alberta will regularly conduct draws from the Worker Stream pool, inviting individuals based on their EOI score rankings, current labor market needs, and the availability of AAIP nominations. If you are among the selected candidates, you will receive an invitation via email.

Though the system officially launches on September 30, there’s no need to rush. Alberta will not conduct its first draws from the pool until mid or late October 2024. This gives candidates plenty of time to ensure their EOI submission is accurate and complete.

How to Prepare for Submitting Your Worker EOI

If you’re thinking of submitting a Worker EOI, follow these steps to get ready:

  1. Check your eligibility for one or more of Alberta’s worker streams.
  2. Please Use our AAIP worker EOI calculator to understand what type of information will be required and how points are awarded.
  3. Consider any existing applications or Entrepreneur EOIs you might have, as you can only have one active Worker EOI at a time.
  4. If you have a current AAIP application or Entrepreneur EOI, be sure to withdraw it before creating a new Worker EOI.
  5. Make sure you have a valid Alberta.ca Account. You can use an existing basic or verified account to log in.

This new system aims to streamline the process of identifying candidates who meet Alberta’s labor market needs, giving you the opportunity to present your skills and experience through the EOI system. Make sure to gather all the necessary information and submit your EOI once you are fully prepared.
