Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to common questions about the Federal Skilled Worker Program

Do I need a job offer to apply under FSW?
No, a job offer is not mandatory for FSW eligibility. However, having a valid job offer supported by a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) can add 50-200 CRS points to your Express Entry profile, significantly improving your chances of receiving an ITA.
What is the difference between FSW points and CRS score?
FSW points (67/100) determine if you're eligible to enter the Express Entry pool. CRS score (up to 1,200 points) ranks you against other candidates in the pool. You need both: 67+ FSW points to qualify, and a competitive CRS score to receive an Invitation to Apply.
How much money do I need to show as settlement funds?
Settlement funds vary by family size: CAD $14,690 for one person, $18,288 for two, $22,483 for three, and increasing amounts for larger families. These funds must be readily available and unencumbered. You don't need to show funds if you have a valid job offer.
Which occupations are eligible for FSW?
All occupations classified under NOC TEER categories 0 (management), 1 (professional jobs requiring university degree), 2 (technical jobs requiring college diploma), and 3 (skilled trades) are eligible. This includes over 370 occupations in IT, engineering, healthcare, finance, education, and more.
Can I include my family in my FSW application?
Yes, you can include your spouse or common-law partner and dependent children in your application. Your spouse's education, work experience, and language skills can also contribute additional points to your CRS score, improving your chances of selection.
